Comprehensive Curriculum for Grade 2
It was either this workbook or summer school for my 8-year-old last year. She completed more than half the book over the summer and finished up third grade with a bang. Needless to say, we will continue with this series this summer. Comprehensive Curriculum for Grade 3 is in our cart. It's great to have such a complete book to review all subjects over the summer. All children should have the chance to stay on top of their studies. Thank you...

A home-school helper
Although there have been some negitive reviews of the other grade levels in this series, I have personally found this book to be very through and helpful to my 9 year old. I thought the set up of a certain number of pages per day was convenient, and just the right amount to keep his interest. The colors and pictures are great, and the price is right! I especially like the teaching suggestions in the back of the book - giving you the option of doing as little or as much as YOU feel comfortable doing on any given subject with your child. I fully intend to continue using this series as long as I can.

Concepts and Models of Inorganic Chemistry
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (March, 1994)
Authors: Bodie Douglas, Darl H. McDaniel, and John J. Alexander
Average review score:

A Thorough Text on Inorganic Chemistry
"Concepts and Meodels of Inorganic Chemistry" is neither an encyclopedia of descriptive inorganic chemistry nor a textbook of structural inorganic chemistry. The book is organized into six major parts: Basic concepts, bonding structure, chemical reactions, coordination chemistry, organmetallic chemistry, and selected topics.

This text distincts itself from Cotton's "Basic Inorganic Chemistry", Shriver's "Inorganic Chemistry", and Misseler & Tarr by the amount of information and details presented in each chapter. Inoformation regarding chemical reactions is presented within a framework of concepts and models that help readers organize and retrieve chemical knowledge. Descriptive chemistry is woven into almost all chapters and is the subject of special topics chapters.

Atomic and molecular structure, symmetry and bonding are discussed n very thorough and detailed manner. Almost all the topics in DeKock and Gray's "Chemical Structure and Bonding" are included in this volume. Topics that are usually discussed briefly or omitted altogether in many inorganic chemistry texts are given special attention: stereochemistry models, spectra and bonding, and inorganic mechanisms. Section on organometallic chemistry can serve as an ideal supplement for an organic course. "Concepts and Models of Inorganic Chemistry" will suit a two-semester inorganic chemistry sequence. While no major texts can cover all the topics in bonding and structure, main group elements, transition metals and spectra, this text has fulfilled all the above purpose. The text is written in a more advanced level than Shriver and Cotton.

nice sumary and interesting contents
This is a nice book about inorganic chemistry

Conversation Book Level 2, Full Edition
Published in Paperback by Pearson ESL (12 December, 1997)
Authors: Tina Carver and Sandra Douglas Fotinos
Average review score:

conversation starters
I use this book in a beginning level English class for Hispanics. I work all day at a computer-related job and volunteer teach ESL two nights a week. I really do not have enough time to think of new conversation starters all the time. I find that this book used in conjunction with other material is ideal for low level adults. It provides a non threatening, informative introduction into American life. It is a fun way to learn the basics.

it's interesting
i'm domenico from italy,i want to learn english and this book is very interesting for me. thank you

Corporate Lunacy : How to Win (or at Least Survive) the Corporate Game
Published in Library Binding by Reality Press (September, 2000)
Authors: Robert McMillan, Douglas Goldsmith, D. Ben Woods, Brian Roach, and R. A. McMillian
Average review score:

An Embellishment of True Observations
This book is a gem. It is full of sarcasm and real-life-annoyance. You can tell that the author was writing this book as a healing process for all of the years he was "stuck" fighting the corporate monster. The illustrations were wonderful and really brought the book into a visual light. I think that anyone who has ever had a job, whether it's office, factory, restaurant, etc., will be able to relate to this book. As much as we'd like to deny it, this book is the real thing. It might be a little embellished for entertainment value, but the observations are true and they are pure Corporate Lunacy.

minha
This is a "must read" for anyone in corporate America and, for sure, those considering entering the corporate world. Honest and a real eye opener -- some things we all knew, but never believed! RA McMillan gives you the facts in a style whick makes you chuckle! The illustrations are great! Hope there is a sequel - will be sure to read!

Cost-Effective Diagnostic Imaging
An excellent book for teaching house-staff. However, it is now out-dated; a new edition is needed.

A great aid to the practicing clinician
I read it cover to cover. It is an excellent guide to imaging studies - I really hope they come up with a 2nd edition.

Country Music Sources: A Biblio-Discography of Commercially Recorded Traditional Music
Published in Library Binding by Univ of North Carolina Pr (July, 2002)
Authors: Guthrie T., Jr Meade, Richard K. Spottswood, and Douglas, S. Meade
Average review score:

a magnificent achievement
This is one of those books that was a "life's work" for its principal author (Gus Meade), but we never would have seen the fruits of his labor without the help of two colleagues who completed this volume after his death--his son Douglas and leading folk scholar Dick Spottswood. It is the most valuable listing of traditional music I have ever seen, everything from British ballads to topical songs, cowboy songs, minstrel music, sentimental songs, blues and hornpipes! There is a wide range of 19th century music here, and some from the early 1900s. Pre-1942 recordings of the songs are listed (including LP/CD reissues), but the book is also valuable for its citations of early published versions (including songbooks), composer/author credits and commentary on the often-similar songs. For anyone interested in the field of traditional American music, this volume is a must.

Unrivalled Scholarship
To my knowledge the most ambitious discographical project ever attempted, 'Country Music Sources' is a massive encyclopedia that traces the origins of songs recorded commercially between 1921 and 1942. Guthrie Meade began work on this book nearly 40 years ago but sadly died in 1991 before he could complete it. After his death, Dick Spottswood and Meade's son Douglas took on the Herculean task of organizing, updating, and finishing this epic undertaking, which consumed an additional 10 years. The results are nothing short of astonishing.

'Country Music Sources' tips the scales at just over 1000 pages, with a hefty price tag to boot, but anyone interested in string band music of the 1920s and 1930s will have to have this. Music is divided into four major parts: Ballads; Songs; Religious Songs; and Instrumental Music. These broad groups are further subdivided into smaller subsections: "Songs," for example, has 29 categories (Transients, Marriage, Prison Songs, Intoxicants, etc.), while "Instrumental Music" is pared down to Reels, Jigs, Rags, Southern Breakdowns, etc. The authors have thoughtfully included separate indexes for song titles and performer.

Also amazing is the 34 page bibliography, which encompasses seemingly every known 19th century "songster" (song book) and hymnal printed up to the early 1900s, as well as dozens of obscure books and texts. Clearly, countless hours were spent and no effort was spared attempting to trace the origins (or earliest known versions) of these songs.

Just on a cursory glance through the pages, I was happy to discover earlier versions of songs that I suspected existed but had no way of tracing. A prime example of this would be The Tune Wranglers' "Born Too Soon" -- without this book, I would've had no idea that it was first recorded in 1925 under the title "Adam and Eve," though they probably learned it from Otto Gray's Oklahoma Cowboy Band's versions in 1928. It was also recorded as "History in a Few Words" by Dan Hornsby in 1930, and "The Story of Adam" by Pink Lindsey in '35. Printed sources of the song pre-date recorded versions.

On the other hand, I was somewhat dismayed to notice that "Alla en el Rancho Grande" (catalogued under "Primtive and Ethinic Themes") lists versions by the Westerners, Milton Brown, the Light Crust Doughboys, the Nite Owls, Otis & Elanor, and Gene Autry, but inexplicably overlooks the Tune Wranglers' well-known version. The authors' research appears so exhaustive that I can only conclude that this is one of the few mistakes; indeed, even the authors themselves admit of "unavoidable mistakes and omissions." Alas, no book of this size and scope can be considered perfect.

Despite a few small errors like this, 'Country Music Sources' is an extremely important and fascinating book, as close to definitive as we will see in our lifetimes.

Creating Paths of Change : Managing Issues and Resolving Problems in Organizations
Published in Paperback by Sage Publications (June, 1997)
Authors: James B. Webber, Douglas M. Smith, Bernie J. Novokowsky, and Will McWhinney
Average review score:

At last: the manual we were waiting for
This books contains it all: who, why, what and how to make effective, efficient, creative and committed change. Changes that last and last. Very practical, down to earth, yet based on a powerful and imaginative model. Don't read it, use it!

Everything you always wanted to ask about change, but ...
were afraid to know. McWinney shows in this "fieldbook" how any change process can be tackled. He convinced me how working with myself, the groups and the resources at hand can create better and longer lasting solutions. Not only to problems but also to the issues of problems that were very hard to solve. The book is a practicle guide to his "Paths of change" and should belong to every bookshelf that contains literature on change and social issues. One warning: this book is not about quick fixes and will only work for you when you are not afraid to venture where you thought you wouldn't dare to go.

A very useful pocketbook. A must have!
This small but wonderful book is very useful. Packed full of facts, recommendations, dosages and treatment parameters. No matter if you're a med student, resident, PA, NP OB doc or a primary care provider, if you practice woman's health this is the best 12 bucks you will spend this year. Guaranteed!

I love the Current CLinical Strategies series but this is my favorite.

This book is EXCELLENT!
I am an OB/GYN resident and I have had the third edition of this book since medical school. I use it more than the advanced residents handbook. This book gives you the basics, exactly what you need, when you need it, labs, orders, etc. Its a must have for every medical student thinking about OB/GYN. If you're crazy enough to go that route.
